Check an iPhone’s carrier lock status
Open Settings → General → About and look for Carrier Lock. “No SIM restrictions” indicates the iPhone is carrier-unlocked. If another message appears or the setting is missing, contact your carrier to confirm. Menu wording can vary by software and region.
Only the carrier can confirm its unlocking policy and whether the device qualifies. Paying off a balance may be one requirement, but it is not a guarantee of immediate unlocking.
Check a Samsung, Pixel, or other Android phone
Android has no single universal carrier-lock menu. Contact the carrier that sold the phone with the relevant device information. Some carriers provide an unlock option or app on supported devices.
A compatible SIM or eSIM from another carrier may help test network access, but compatibility, provisioning, and coverage can also cause a failure. Do not treat one failed test as proof of a lock.
Activation Lock and factory reset protection are different
Apple Activation Lock is tied to Find My and the owner’s Apple Account. Android device protection can require a previously linked Google account after a reset. These are anti-theft protections—not carrier restrictions—and a factory reset alone may not remove them.
If you forgot your credentials, use the platform’s official recovery process. Managed work and school phones may require the organization to release them. We do not help bypass ownership protections.
Financing, lost-device reports, and blocked identifiers
Outstanding financing or a lost/stolen report may affect whether a phone can be purchased or used. Your carrier is the appropriate source for confirming account status. A random online IMEI result does not guarantee a clean device or clear ownership.
Only offer devices you own or are authorized to sell. In the inquiry, state what you know about carrier locks, financing, or restrictions. If you’re unsure, say so; an inquiry does not guarantee acceptance.
